Overview of Library Services
The Library, established in 1834 and named after prominent MCG physician, Robert B. Greenblatt, M.D. in 1988, provides resources and services for the health information needs of the faculty, staff and students of the Medical College of Georgia and MCG Health, Inc. and serves as a source of health information for the state of Georgia.

Library Privileges
A current library barcode entitles its owner full library privileges and is required to borrow materials. Faculty, staff and students may obtain a library barcode by presenting their current MCG or MCGHI picture identification badge at the Library Information Center.

Borrowing Materials
Books—four weeks
Bound journals—three days
Unbound journals—one day
Audiovisuals—three days

Resources
The Library provides an extensive collection of biomedical books, journals and audiovisuals, computer programs, databases, internet resources and various historical collections including university publications and historical archives.

Electronic Resources
Electronic resources are available at library workstations and at campus and hospital workstations. They are also available remotely from home or distance education sites via password.

Document Delivery/ Interlibrary Loan
Document delivery services will acquire material not available at MCG for a small fee through agreements and electronic connections to hundreds of libraries worldwide.

University System Library Privileges
The resources of the University System Libraries in Georgia are available to those with a current library barcode via the GILExpress service.

Reserves
Materials may be placed on reserve to support course instruction for students. Materials on reserve are listed on GIL@MCG and are located at the Library Information Center.

Collection Development
The Library purchases materials recommended by faculty using the Collection Development guidelines. Requests for new journal titles require a continuing commitment, and a variety of factors are considered before adding a title.The Collection Development Committee evaluates requests for new journal titles annually.

Services
Education
To make arrangements for curriculum support for information management and retrieval, Evidence Based Medicine, EndNote, specific databases and the Internet, call the Education Coordinator at 721-3443.

Distance Education
Library services for distance users can be arranged for students at distance learning and off campus clinical sites.

Hospital and Clinics
A Clinical Librarian is available most days in the hospital and clinics. Email or call (721-9904) Kevin Bradford for assistance or an appointment.

Reference and Consultation
Quick answers for basic facts will be answered for users via email, by phone (721-3441), or in person.

Library faculty are available for in-depth reference assistance and consultation for access, evaluation, and management of information resources.

Facilities
Photocopiers, paging phones, lockers, conference rooms, group study rooms, and individual locked carrels are available in the library. Contact the Library Information Center for additional information.

Library Information Center (LInC)
The LInC desk is the starting point for providing all library services. It is prominently located as you enter the library. The phone number for the LInC is 721-3441.

Conference Rooms
Several conference rooms and electronic classrooms may be reserved online for meetings or special classes.

Computer Lab
Computers are available with networked printers, access to the internet and common productivity applications. Some workstations are also equipped with scanners and multimedia software such as PhotoShop.

Electronic Classrooms
Two electronic classrooms may be reserved for instruction in a networked environment. Each room has multiple student computer stations and an instructor station linked to a projection system.
