Effective April 7, 2008
New reporting requirements, Revised Policy on Enhancing Public Access to Archived Publications Resulting from NIH-Funded Research went into effect. Authors or principle investigators must submit final peer-reviewed journal manuscripts that arise from NIH funds to the digital archive PubMed Central (http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/) within twelve (12) months of acceptance for publication. This applies to any manuscript that is peer-reviewed, from NIH direct funding including grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, Intramural Programs, etc.
Effective May 25, 2008
NIH applications, proposals, and progress reports must include the PubMed Central reference number (PMCID) or the NIH manuscript submission number when citing a paper that falls under the policy and is authored or co-authored by the investigator, or arose from the investigator’s NIH award.
